What are possible benefits of orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®?

midlothian-va-invisalign-1Straight teeth can help you effectively bite, chew and speak. It also contributes to healthy teeth and gums. Properly aligned teeth and jaws may alleviate or prevent physical health problems. In addition, an attractive smile is a pleasant “side effect” of orthodontic treatment and can contribute to self-esteem, self-confidence and self-image at almost every age.

When teeth are properly aligned, they are less prone to decay and gum disease. Straight teeth collect less plaque. Bacteria in plaque feed on the carbohydrates that we eat and drink. These bacteria help to produce acids that can cause cavities. Plaque can also increase the risk for periodontal disease. Also, when teeth are properly aligned, it is easier to keep teeth clean.

Would an adult patient benefit from Invisalign®?

Yes! Many adults seek orthodontic treatment to improve their smile and maintain good dental health. Teeth can be adjusted at any age to create a healthy, straight, beautiful new smile. Many orthodontic problems can be corrected as easily for adults as for children. Invisalign® is a popular choice among adult patients because it is nearly invisible during treatment and requires fewer office visits than braces.

invisalign-midlothian
Have no fear! Invisalign® will not prevent you from participating in any of your school activities such as playing sports or musical instruments, although it may take a little getting used to at first. However, if you are playing a sport that requires the use of a mouth guard, you can remove the Invisalign® aligners so the mouth guard will fit properly.

Can I just wear the aligners when I sleep?

No, Invisalign® treatment requires keeping your aligners in place about 20-22 hours each day. You should only remove them to eat, clean your teeth, and when necessary for sports requiring mouth guard use. Your duration of treatment is partially influenced by your adherence to this schedule.
